We who differ from the dominant culture have to go through a process of understanding our own ethnicity juxtaposed with the expectations of those around us. The consistent challenge, then, becomes how do we hold onto our ethnic identity while living within a new setting. Is the lack of welcoming internalized or do we hold onto what makes us different?
What are your multiple layers of diversity and which ones are most pertinent?
